Level up your pentatonic playing, Ibanez mini pedals, and great ways to find new chords

It’s been one heck of a week over here. Been busy with work, hockey is in full swing (and the NJ Devils are doing pretty good!), and I finally was able to sell my Fractal AX–8 and purchase the Fractal FM3 - which I’ve been diving into with the rising force of a 100 Yngwie’s. Keep an eye out for some new videos up on my YouTube, talking about the FM3, how to use it, what my favorite patches are, and more.

It’s been a quieter week in the guitar world, but I still have some really fun links to share with you. So without further ado, let’s get into this week’s links!

The craziest guitar store stories, Warren Haynes' secret weapon, and the most beautiful tuning for guitar

Super happy to be back this week for another issue of Six String Sunday. If you can believe it, I just hit episode 10 of Chasing Sound Live! You can check out the full replay right here.

We lost a couple of good ones in the music world this week, with both Pat Martino and Emmett Chapman passing. If you want to read more about each of them, check out Guitar World’s feature on Pat here and their feature on Emmett Chapman here.

In, finally news, Randy Rhoads was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hallof Fame. Guys like Zakk Wylde, Tom Morello and Kirk Hammett paid tribute to the legendary Ozzy axeman. Check out the story here. I’m really looking forward to seeing the entire ceremony, which should air on HBO later this month.

Alright, let’s get to the rest of this week’s links.

New Gibson guitars, how to best learn songs and licks, Randy Rhoads - Chasing Sound Live! Episode 10

Episode 10 of Chasing Sound Live! debuted this Saturday. I talked about everything from new Gibson signature models and Randy Rhoads, to how to best learn songs and licks, and how you can make learning both a lot more effective. You can check out the full replay below!

I'm also taking requests as to who you'd like to see on the show in the future. Whether it be a guitarist, guitar teacher or someone else, drop a comment on YouTube letting me know who you'd like me to interview.

No tricks, only awesome guitar links over here 🎃 🎸

Hey! How’s it going this week? Are you in a spooky mood? This week’s newsletter will not have any of my link commentary, (some would say they like it better that way - I hope that’s not you!) because it’s been such a crazy busy week for me at home and at work. That being said, I do have a bunch of awesome guitar stories, lessons, and gear videos/posts to share with you this week. Next week I’ll be back with my regularly scheduled email of over 1000 words, I’m sure.

Find notes everywhere on the fretboard, make your own guitar cables, new Dream Theater and much more!

Hey, how’s it going? I just finished doing episode 9 of Chasing Sound Live! where we talked about finding notes on the fretboard. I’ve been having so much fun doing these bi-weekly streams. If you’re just getting started on guitar, or if you’ve played for years, I think this is one of the best lessons with a ton of tricks that’ll be helpful for you. You can check out the replay here. If you have an idea of what you’d like me to cover next, let me know. Alright, let’s get into this week’s links!

Chasing Sound Live! Episode 9 - Finding Notes Everywhere!

This week's livestream was a blast to do. I showed off a ton of different tricks you can use to find notes all over the fretboard. Some I've learned myself, others I've learned from other teachers I've taken lessons from over the last couple of years. I feel like this is one of the best ways to get started finding notes on guitar, and knowing more of what you're playing, rather than just random shapes/boxes.

You can find the full livestream replay below. Make sure to subscribe to Chasing Sound on YouTube for future livestream notifications!

Is this the world's greatest acoustic player, the perfect chord progression, and free Martin Miller presets

How’s it going this week for you in the woodshed? I’ve been hunkering down and having a lot of fun practicing. I’m at that weird stage in the year where I don’t quite want to turn my heat on yet, but it’s getting a little brisk. Is this another benefit of using a tube rig vs. a modeler? The extra heat the power amp tubes give off?

Speaking of modelers, I’m changing it up a bit, and selling my Fractal AX–8. If you’re looking for a good deal on a fantatsic sounding modeler, you can check it out here on Reverb. Alright, let’s get into this week’s links!

Awesome new Epiphones, finding the right fuzz, the Google tuner and more!

It’s been quieter than usual in the guitar world this week, but I still have a bunch of fun guitar stuff to share with you. As we dip into the colder months (at least here on the east coast), I feel like warming up with a nice cup of coffee and your guitar is the perfect way to spend time learning and creating. Not to mention, if you want to hang out with other like minded guitarists, you should head over to our Discord chat, where we’re always talking about guitar videos, gear, music recommendations and so much more (you can check out an invite at the bottom of this email).

And if you want a behind the scenes look at the stories inside this newsletter, you should join me on Chasing Sound Live! You can sub and be alerted of livestreams here. I just did one yesterday, and had a great time talking about all sorts of guitar stories. I talked about giving Epiphone some credit with these new Slash and Joe Bonamassa guitars that are all priced under a grand. I’m especially interested in the Bonamassa “Lazarus” LP Standard. Check out Joe talking about it here. Alright, let’s get into this week’s links!
